About Merrit:

By turns overly optimistic and cynical, Merrit is muddling his way through college trying to find a place of his own. He's often angst filled and hormonal but his native optimism boueys him through his frequent clashes of bad-luck. (and he IS very unlucky!!) Sometimes he feels like he isn't prone to Murphy's law--but that it should be called Merrit's Law since it happens to him so often!

He chose to attend Quinlan University on a whim--he never thought he'd get enough financial aid to get into any college, let alone one that might actually train him how to use his psychic abilities. His friend Neve had suggested it and after a long process of interviews, financial aid meetings and signing his life away on loans he is there and making the most of it. He tries hard not to think about how much he's going to owe when he gets out and remains optimistic that at the end of it he'll be offered a good paying position--somewhere!

Merrit's biggest complaint so far has been that his best friend Nik (who is also his roomate) has girls crawling all over him but can’t seem to get one for himself.  Over the summer he met a girl while he was on an exchange program. Her name is .Miel.....and sparks flew. Merrit thought she was the best thing about the summer (In the process of getting to know her he also found out some kinky things and is still trying to figure out how it all goes together.) He's never dated a girl (beyond the first date and the polite to not-so-polite brush off) and his time with Miel was like a wonderful fantasy come true.

Merrit adores Miel and is definitely carrying a torch for her.

He gets really pissed off when Nik laughs at his attempts to get a girl to go out on a date with him, and Nik's intimations that Miel never actually was interested in Merrit and that the picts he has (and the experience) was part of some elaborate joke between her and and her friend Tangie. Merrit hopes that at some time in the future he'll be able to prove Nik wrong, but who knows?

Merrit's magical talents are somewhat scattered across the board. In the aptitude tests he took on admission he was shown being strongest in conjurational energies. He hopes that now that a lot of the professors know him from his freshman year they'll be more laid back. He has an especially hard time with Professor Taschen, the Fabrications instructor---mostly because he thinks Taschen is an ass (with a captial A) who likes to lord his authority over everyone. He's also got a problem with Morgan Renfield, one of the lecturers--he isn't sure why, but Renfield took a major dislike to him and seems to go out of his way to make things difficult for him. On the plus side of things though, Merrit gets on really well with Professor Heike, who teaches the higher level summoning & conjuration classes so he's looking forward to those classes!

Merrit's Background:  Merrit comes from a single parent family. His mother, Janet works hard and tries to send him something each month to make his time at Quinlan more enjoyable. She is proud of her son and the fact that he is the first memebr of their family to attend any kind of higher education. Unfortunately, Janet is also very stressed most of the time and is somewhat erratic in her contact with him---Its enough for Merrit to know that at the end of the school year he has a place to stay and someone who loves him. He doesn't ask for much more than that, and because of that, he's never disappointed in her.

Hobbies & Interests: Playing pool, music, partying, women, watching tv. When he was in high school, Merrit played in a ‘garage’ band called the Spork-boys. He was a fair hand as a bass player and occasional front man. Since coming to Quinlan he hasn't had as much free time (yes, he does actually study sometimes!) and also hasn't really found any guys who are into the same kind of music as he wants to play. He does a few jams occasionally, but for the most part has put his musical aspirations on hold.
