Age:17.5 Profession: student (freshman) About
Raven: When she was a child, Raven's parents dragged her on archeological digs all over the world & often had her have an on-site tutor rather than attending public schools. Her social skills are poorly developed for dealing with others her age and when she finally entered public high school, she was completely out of her depth behaviorally. She was used to interacting with adults more often than teenagers and she suffered for it. It was during that same time period that her body started to mature and "blossom". To her embarrassment she developed a chest larger than any of the other girls in the school, and even the teachers...And it was horrible. She tried to dress in baggy shirts whenever possible, although her expanding chest drew a lot of attention--catty remarks from the female students, and lewd, sexually suggestive comments from the guys. She experienced months of mockery and abuse until she met Jean Adams, one of the popular girls in the arts-clique at the school. Jean realized how interesting Raven really was, and took her under her wing. Under Jean's watchful eye, Raven learned to express herself and stand up to some of the nastier elements of the school. They hung out often, and Raven even joined some of the same school clubs--including Arts-online and Splat--the school club for painting and sculpture. Their friendship grew and it was no surprise that when Raven's parents when missing that Jean's family took her in to allow her to continue classes at Rochester--rather than being forced to relocate across the state with her older sister Shay. Raven feels angry and bitter that Shay waltzed into her life and turned it upside down. Raven had hoped to attend graduation with Jean and her family, and finally feel like she had accomplished something--in someone's eyes that mattered to her. While Raven loves Shay, and respects her, she doesn't really feel the desire to please her--only to keep from getting nagged or admonished by her. When Shay told Raven that she was going to attend Quinlan University, rather than being excited or interested in it, Raven felt shock and depression. She wasn't even allowed to finish out her school year before Shay dragged her across the state and stuffed her into a round of studying and books that Raven feels buried under. She misses her friend, she fears that Quinlan will be a hellish experience. And that maybe, just maybe the worst part of it is that Shay is going to be one of her teachers and that she won't lay off on her and is bound to make an example of her in class--no matter if she does something right or wrong! Raven doesn't get along with bossy and pushy people--they remind her too much of her sister and the fact that she feels like she has zero control of her life. That she has never had control over her life. Raven has a lot of self-worth issues and they are acerbated by her older sister Shay's comments and actions. Raven feels on some levels that her parents are missing because of her or possibly even (in the darker moods) that they aren't really missing but that they got tired of her in their life and decided it was just easier to leave. Raven is an emotional eater. It has an almost compulsive quality to it, to the point that she always carries some form of food with her. She eats when she is unhappy, when she is stressed and when she is bored. She resents Shay's frequent commentary on her eating, and food choices, but also knows that her sister is correct in some respects. Best
